In 1989, several teenage lab technicians, employed by the US
Navy, created a prototype poetry generation system. For years
is languished on a mainframe at a major research institution,
largely unappreciated, save for a handful of Finns, Brazilians
and Iowanese. Most users happened upon Poetry CreatOR while
attempting to answer the timeless questions, "What is art?" or
the more specific questions, "What is poetry?" and "Can I write
a master's thesis without going to a research library?"
