After hearing about Bali from Maura, I thought it was going to be a lot like going to Hawaii with many things aimed at tourists. We found that there were some places to escape from the touristy places. Unfortunately, due to some restrictions, we weren't able to escape entirely. Balinese Festival
Balinese Rice Fields We arrived in Bali and were whisked away to the nearby city of Ubud - the cultural center of the island. We stayed here for a couple of days, then ran away to the northern shore to a resort area called Lovina Beach. After soaking up some sun, we went back to Ubud in order to see some cultural shows that Maura needed to see for her grant. We thought about going to the eastern part of the island for some snorkeling, but never quite made it. Daytimes in Ubud were spent visiting the many shops along the main drag. However, there is only so much shopping that we could take, so we did manage to take a day trip away from the city and see some more of the countryside.
